The next planned PS5 restock is coming from GameStop, and it will be in store instead of online. You will need to check the GameStop store locator to confirm which local store will have consoles and be especially careful of the time those stores open. Some GameStop locations will be opening as early as 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, and you will likely need to line up early to guarantee you can take part in this PS5 restock.

Want to wait for an online PlayStation 5 restock instead of camping out on Thanksgiving day for a Black Friday deal? Can't blame you, but getting in on a PS5 restock can be messy and frustrating, especially if you've been through a couple and still haven't gotten your hands on one. The good news is these PS5 restock have been increasing in frequency -- in fact, there have been two massive restocks already this week and it's likely we will see more today or tomorrow. Here are a few quick tips:

  • PS5 restocks are a lot more common in the afternoon and evening than they are in the morning. Chances of an unplanned restock tend to go up dramatically after 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET), so if you're wondering when to check, that's usually the best time to start.
  • If a restock starts and you immediately see Out of Stock on the screen, do not give up. Refresh the screen a few times and keep trying. Some retailers release the consoles in waves to keep bots from getting all of them.

Over the last year, the biggest retailers have made a lot of changes to the checkout process in an effort to both offer peace of mind and keep bots from buying all of the consoles and selling them for more somewhere else. The most recent change we've seen in the PS5 restock game has been paid access, meaning you buy a subscription and one of the perks is you get in on the next PS5 restock either earlier than anyone else or exclusively for your club.

After a few weeks of this new system rolling out across GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart and even Amazon in some cases, the one thing we can say for sure is it's still not guaranteed you will get a console through these systems. The queue fills up fast for all of them, and consoles remain in stock for only minutes in many cases. Every time a PS5 restock happens, social media fills with people describing how they experienced glitches in the process and the consoles ended up being gone entirely.

It's unreasonable to sign up and pay for every service, but that's where we can help. We're constantly tracking the best way for you to get your hands on a PS5, and there are plenty of things you can do to increase your odds before the buy button lights up. Check it out below.

ps5-playstation-5-sony-hoyle-promo-11

Why is the PS5 so tough to find?

There are three big reasons why you're still struggling to get a PS5. The first is the most obvious: The system is really popular. Sony says the PS5 is its best-selling console and has already sold 10 million units since launch.

The second reason is the current chip shortage impacting most of the world's electronics. Sony did say it has secured enough chips to meet its goal of 14.8 million consoles for the fiscal year.

As for the last reason, it comes down to bots. Resellers are using software to purchase a massive number of PS5s at once, leaving only a few for actual humans to buy. Retailers added various bot protections during PS5 restocks, but these restrictions only hamper resellers so much.

Where has the PS5 been available recently?

We keep track of every PS5 restock, and maintain this list here of the most likely places you'll find them, and when the PS5 was last available there.

Which Early Access service should I pay for?

Lots of companies now limit access to a PS5 to a subscription, but each one is a little different. Here's the full breakdown of how each one works.

  • Amazon Prime: This one is pretty straightforward. In many cases the only way to buy a PS5 from Amazon is by being a Prime subscriber or by signing up for the Treasure Truck text service. There's no extra fee outside of the standard Prime subscription, but in many cases you can't access the PS5 restock unless you're subscribed.
  • GameStop PowerUp Rewards Pro: Many PS5 restocks from GameStop start an hour earlier for you if you have signed up for this rewards program. This works best when GameStop announces the restock ahead of time or emails its subscribers to let them know a restock is coming. This subscription service costs $15 per year, and includes a ton of extra perks.
  • Walmart Plus: This service was built by Walmart just to offer early access during sales events, and that includes a PS5 restock. The rules for this early access vary; in some cases PS5 restocks can be entirely limited to subscribers or it can be an early access window of one to four hours before the general population has access. Walmart charges $13 per month or $98 per year for this service. There's a 15-day free trial currently available if you're not sure it's for you, but you only get early access if you pay for that first month.
  • Best Buy Totaltech: If you want special access to Geek Squad for installations and tech support, as well as extensions on warranty purchases, this is the service for you. If you just want this for early access to a PS5 restock, Best Buy is asking you to pay $200 per year and that is a lot. Best Buy does occasionally limit access to a PS5 restock to only Totaltech subscribers, but most of the time those restocks are made available to the public later.

For the moment, the service that seems most useful to most people is Walmart Plus. There are more restocks at Walmart than most other places right now, and that subscription can increase your odds of getting a console dramatically. You're still going to have to be quick and accept that you may not get the console on the first try, but it's a good way to increase your odds.

How do I increase my chances of getting a PS5?

Major retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, Target and Best Buy don't usually give much notice ahead of a restock. Sometimes they'll have a restock in the morning, other times in the afternoon and, in some cases, even in the middle of the night. Here are some tips to help you get the jump on the competition.

First tip: Don't wait until you see an alert for a PS5 inventory drop. Check the links at major retailers for stock updates daily or even multiple times a day. (We've got the links all lined up below.) If you do happen upon some PS5 availability, go all-in with as many browsers and devices as possible. On a desktop, for example, open the retailer's page in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Then do the same on your phone and tablet. The more devices and browsers, the better. It's like with lottery tickets: The more you have, the better your chances of winning.

Second tip: Create accounts at the different retailers and make sure you're already logged in if you're going to try to get a PS5. Make sure all your shipping, bill and payment info is updated on whatever device you can buy from, whether it's a laptop, desktop or phone. This makes checking out a lot faster, which is crucial as retailers' sites get quickly bogged down, leading to people losing their chance of securing a PS5.

Third tip: Keep checking back with this post and follow CNET and Oscar Gonzalez on Twitter for updates.

Where is safe to buy a PS5 if I'm OK with paying extra?

If you're starting to crack and considering buying a PS5 right now (and we know that with the number of big PS5 games dropping over the next few months, the pressure is on), you can do so, but at the cost of a hefty markup on sites like eBay or StockX. On eBay, for example, we've seen PS5 units priced over $1,000, although prices have slowly made their way down to approximately $700.

Where to buy a PS5

Target

You will usually find the standard edition is available more often than the digital edition at Target, but that doesn't make it any less solid a place to check for stock.

Walmart

Currently one of the best places to get a PS5, but beware the company frequently makes the consoles available to Walmart Plus subscribers first.

Amazon

It's usually a requirement to have a Prime membership to get access to a PS5 restock from Amazon, but not always. And if you sign up for the Treasure Truck program, you'll get a text when a PS5 is available for delivery.

GameStop

Restocks happen fast at GameStop, and if you're a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscriber you can occasionally get access to the console an hour before everyone else.

Best Buy

You can find a PS5 restock at Best Buy more often than most places, though it occasionally requires a Totaltech subscription if you want to get in on one early.

PlayStation Direct

If you want to buy a console directly from Sony, click this link and register to be put in the waiting queue. When you get an email inviting you to buy the console, it's a fairly low-stress checkout followed by a one- or two-day wait for shipping and you're done.

Newegg

PS5 restocks don't happen at Newegg super frequently, but they do happen and it's a great idea to check here because a lot of other people don't know to do so.

eBay

You won't be paying the standard price for your PS5 if you buy it from here, but you will certainly get it without much fighting to check out.

StockX

When all else fails, if you absolutely must have the console right now regardless of price, the folks at StockX will at the very least protect you from being scammed by someone who never intended to give you a console.

Walmart Store Hours: Is Walmart Open on Thanksgiving? When will it open on Black Friday?

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 24, 2020, / Compare-autoinsurance.Org has launched a new blog post that presents the main benefits of comparing multiple car insurance quotes. For more info and free online quotes, please visit https://compare-autoinsurance.Org/the-advantages-of-comparing-prices-with-car-insurance-quotes-online/ The modern society has numerous technological advantages. One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier. For additional info, money-saving tips, and free car insurance quotes, visit https://compare-autoinsurance.Org/ Compare-autoinsurance.Org is an online provider of life, home, health, and auto insurance quotes. THE CALDWELLS, NJ —Need a break from all the Thanksgiving turkey eating, football watching and dish washing? Here's one idea: Gather up the family and head out for an hour or two of holiday shopping at select stores in the Livingston area.

Below is a list of chains that said they'll be open certain hours on the holiday, as well as some local grocery stores that are open.

However, don't expect all of your favorite retailers to be open this year.

In June, retail giant Walmart announced it will close all stores on Thanksgiving Day this year, a move the company said is a "thank you" to store employees for their hard work through the coronavirus pandemic.

Walmart's decision follows a similar one by competitor Target, which announced in January that stores would also close this Thanksgiving.

The two giant retailers Walmart and Target are among many companies that have faced criticism for remaining open on Thanksgiving and keeping workers from spending the holiday with their families. In response, a growing number of retailers including Costco, Lowe's and Hobby Lobby have started closing stores on the holiday.

Still, a number of stores remain open on Thanksgiving Day, according to lists compiled by Good Housekeeping, Country Living, NBC Chicago and more. Here are a few — and as always, it's a good idea to check your local store's hours.

It may not be Thanksgiving yet, but Black Friday 2021 is officially here. Most major retailers, from Amazon to Walmart to Best Buy to Target, have all already kicked off their Black Friday sales. Great deals are available now, and more great deals are coming weekly.

If you're looking to get your holiday shopping game plan together, you've come to the right place. Here is your guide to finding the best deals for Black Friday 2021.

What you need to know about Black Friday 2021

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is one of the biggest deal-shopping events of the year. On Black Friday, almost every major retailer offers big discounts on holiday gifts, the hottest toys of the year, apparel, kitchen gifts, tech gadgets and more. Don't expect discounts on hard-to-find items like the Sony PlayStation 5, but you may be able to catch a PS5 restock during Black Friday.

Traditionally on Black Friday, some shoppers stay up late the night of Thanksgiving or wake up early to line up in front of stores for early-morning openings and doorbuster deals. In light of COVID-19, many stores closed on Thanksgiving 2020, and instead of directing shoppers to their brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday, steered shoppers to Black Friday deals on their websites.

In 2021, most big box retail stores will be closed for Thanksgiving. Best Buy, JC Penney, Kohl's, Macy's, Target and Walmart will all be closed on Thanksgiving. (Apple, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe's and Nordstrom will be closed as well, per usual.)

Only a small handful of stores will be open on Thanksgiving, including Kmart, Dollar General, Big Lots, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's. A number of supermarkets and drugstores (such as CVS, RiteAid and Walgreens) will also be open. Hours will vary.

Curbside pickup options were popular in 2020, and will likely be just as popular in 2021. Curbside pickup allows you to order an item online from a big-box retailer, drive to a store location, and have the store bring your purchase out to your vehicle when you arrive.

Black Friday sales have already begun

Though Black Friday 2021 is this Friday, if you wait until then to shop, you'll miss out on a some great deals. That's because Amazon, Walmart, Target and Best Buy have all already started their Black Friday sales. Amazon's Black Friday sale, in fact, kicked off in October.

Shop Amazon's Black Friday 2021 Deals

The final phase of Walmart's Black Friday 2021 event called Walmart Deals for Days started Monday.

Shop Walmart's Black Friday 2021 Deals

Electronics retailer Best Buy also has launched early Black Friday deals. Its latest batch includes a $229 Cricut Maker cutting machine (save $140) that's great for holiday crafting, Jabra Elite 85t noise cancelling earbuds for $150 (save $80) and a 70-inch Samsung smart TV for $600 (save $150).

Shop Best Buy's Black Friday 2021 Deals

Target's Black Friday sale, Holiday Best, will feature new deals every week as well. Last we checked, there's a buy 2, get 1 free deal on toys, board games, children's books and more worth checking out. Plus, there's a string of deals on TVs, headphones and Apple AirPods. You can also save up to 30% off select hair care appliances.

Shop Target's Black Friday 2021 Deals

Start holiday shopping early this year

Shipping experts are recommending that you start holiday shopping now, even before the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales have begun. (Cyber Monday is Nov. 29.) Though the shipping situation is improving, the Port of Los Angeles, which handles 40% of the nation's imports, is still working through a backlog of cargo shipments.

All this means you may not find the products you want as quickly (or as affordably) as usual this holiday season. Shipping containers are also in short supply, increasing shipping costs. Retailers from Best Buy to Nordstrom are expecting some port-related delays. COVID-19 also has caused disruptions to global supply chains, and some overseas factories are shut down to prevent the spread of the illness.

Are there pre-Black Friday deals already available now?

Fortunately, shopping now doesn't mean that you have to miss out on great deals. Ahead are some pre-Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals you can shop right now at stores like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Ulta.

what time does super walmart close

Edgewood residents are learning to adapt after their Walmart Supercenter ignited Sunday night.

The store didn’t burn to the ground, but the damage — from a blaze police suspect is a case of arson — forced its closure, at least temporarily.

The town of about 6,000 residents sits in the southwestern corner of Santa Fe County, some 60 miles from Santa Fe and 30 miles from Albuquerque. Many locals have relied heavily on the Supercenter for their groceries, household goods and prescription medications.

Walmart wasn’t their only option — the town also has a Smith’s and a Walgreens.

Still, Pat Roberts, 60, who has worked at the Supercenter for 14 years, said the fire was “devastating” to the community.

“People depend on the store,” he said. “Because of its size, it has pretty much everything.”

A 92-year-old woman, who what time does super walmart close identified herself as Beverly, said, “This is walmart changing store hours to be a major inconvenience. It was a shock to me.”

She said she has been a resident of Edgewood for 14 years. On Tuesday, she was shopping just a mile down the road from Walmart at a packed Smith’s Food and Drug.

Beverly and her husband had been filling their prescriptions at the Walmart pharmacy, she said. This week they were told to ask their doctors to send their prescriptions to a store in Albuquerque, a 25-minute drive.

Their other options are to switch to the Walgreens or Smith’s pharmacy, but that may not be simple, either, Edgewood police Chief Darrell Sanchez said.

As his investigators work with the state fire marshal to track possible arson suspects — so far none has been named — Sanchez is working to make sure residents’ needs are met. He is concerned in particular about elderly people like Beverly, who need their medications.

“What I’m trying to accomplish is reaching out to places, the senior center being one of them, because I know we’ve got elderly people who rely on Walmart as their provider for their medication,” he said.

Compounding the problem, he said, is that a pharmacy in nearby Moriarty also closed down recently.

“So those stores were already being inundated by them closing down — and now we’ve got Walmart on top of it,” the chief said.

Sharon Prichard, 54, said in other places she’s been, she normally didn’t shop at Walmart, but when she returned home to Edgewood, she discovered it was a place where she could buy everything she needed.

Prichard enjoyed biking to the store to buy groceries and other things like dog what time does super walmart close, water jugs and small appliances. Now, her options are limited.

“What else am I going to do? Drive to Albuquerque and use five gallons of gas?” she said.

Walmart did not respond to requests for comment on the Supercenter or when it might reopen.

In a statement Monday, a Walmart representative said, “We’re still assessing overall losses, and it’s too soon to estimate how long the store be closed.”

For now, some of its employees have jobs.

111621_WalmartFire01-rgb.jpg

Staff members could be seen Tuesday cleaning up debris outside the store and preparing barriers to close sections of the parking lot to the public.

Julie Sanchez, who recently accepted a job at the store, said she is thankful it is still offering paid shifts. On Tuesday, she arrived around 11 a.m. prepared to work eight hours.

“All we’re doing is cleaning stuff, getting everything out of the store that needs to get out and repairing the store,” she said.

Julie Sanchez was in the store at the time of the fire, stocking shelves. “I was up on my ladder, and I turned around because I heard somebody scream, ‘Fire!’ ” she said. “I just saw the huge flames.”

She noted she didn’t see anyone light the fire.

The Santa Fe County Fire Department and Edgewood police arrived around 8 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports that multiple fires had been set inside. The Torrance County, Bernalillo County and city of Albuquerque fire departments aided in what became a four-hour effort to extinguish the blaze.

Jimmy Vigil, a captain with the state marshal’s Fire/Arson Investigations Bureau, said Monday it was being investigated as an “intentionally set fire.”

“The investigation will take time due to the severe damage the fire caused,” he added.

The good news is these PS5 restock have been increasing in frequency -- in fact, there have been two massive restocks already this doc holliday tombstone poster and it's likely we will see more today or what time does super walmart close.

The most recent change we've seen in the PS5 restock game has been paid access, meaning you buy a subscription and one of the perks is you get in on the next PS5 restock what time does super walmart close earlier than anyone else or exclusively for your club.

For the moment, the service that seems most useful to most people is Walmart Yahoo email quota. There are more restocks at Walmart than most other places right now, and that subscription can increase your odds of getting a console dramatically. You're still going to have to be quick and accept that you may not get the console on the first try, but it's a heritage bank branch near me way to increase your odds.

Then do the refinance car loan calculator capital one on your phone and tablet.

If you're starting to crack and considering buying a PS5 right now (and we know that with the number of big PS5 games dropping over the next few months, the pressure is on), you can do so, but at the cost of a hefty markup on sites like eBay or What time does super walmart close.

If you want to buy a console directly from Tarrant county medical examiner jobs, click this first president of america and register to be put in the waiting queue.

Walmart Press Release

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Jan. 15, 2016 – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT: NYSE) today announced plans to close 269 stores in the U.S. and globally.

In October 2015, the company said an active review of the portfolio was underway to ensure assets were aligned with strategy. Today’s action follows a thorough review of Walmart’s nearly 11,600 worldwide stores that took into account a number of factors, including financial performance as well as strategic alignment with long-term plans. In total, the impacted stores represent less than 1 percent of both global square footage and revenue.

“Actively managing our portfolio of assets is essential to maintaining a healthy business,” said Doug McMillon, president and CEO, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. “Closing stores is never an easy decision, but it is necessary to keep the company strong and positioned for the future. It’s important to remember that we’ll open well more than 300 stores around the world next year. So we are committed to growing, but we are being disciplined about it.”

Store Closings/Openings

As part of today’s action, the company will close 154 locations in the U.S., including the company’s 102 smallest format stores, Walmart Express, which had been in pilot since 2011. Walmart instead will focus on strengthening Supercenters, optimizing Neighborhood Markets, growing the e-commerce business and expanding Pickup services for customers. Also covered in the closures are 23 Neighborhood Markets, 12 Supercenters, seven stores in Puerto Rico, six discount centers, and four Sam’s Clubs.

Internationally, the company is following a disciplined strategy of actively managing its portfolio. Consistent with this strategy, the company is closing 115 stores outside the United States. This includes 60 recently-closed, loss-making stores in Brazil, which represents only 5 percent of sales in that market. The company has already been able to relocate many affected associates in Brazil to other stores. The remaining 55 stores are primarily small, loss-making stores in other Latin American markets. Walmart will disclose more detail about those actions, including the number of stores per market, after completing local associate and community outreach.

Walmart will continue to invest in its future, with plans to open stores worldwide in the coming fiscal year. Domestically, Walmart intends to open 50 to 60 Supercenters and 85 to 95 Neighborhood Markets in Fiscal 2017, which begins Feb. 1. In the same period, Sam’s Club plans to open in seven to 10 new locations. Internationally, Walmart intends to open between 200 and 240 stores during the coming year.

The financial impact of these closures is estimated to be approximately $0.20 to $0.22 of diluted earnings per share from continuing operations, with approximately $0.19 to $0.20 expected to impact the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016. The remainder of the impact will fall into the first half of fiscal 2017. Approximately 75 percent of the impact relates to U.S. closings and the remaining portion involves Walmart International, with a large majority of the international impact relating to the closures in Brazil. Walmart will report its fiscal 2016 fourth-quarter and full-year results on Feb. 18. The estimated financial impact is not included in the company’s fiscal 2016 fourth quarter and full year earnings guidance.

Store Associates and Transition Assistance

In total, approximately 16,000 associates will be impacted by the decision, about 10,000 of them in the U.S. More than 95 percent of the closed stores in the U.S. are within 10 miles on average of another Walmart, and the hope is that these associates will be placed in nearby locations. Where that isn’t possible, the company will provide 60 days of pay and, if eligible, severance, as well as resume and interview skills training. Whether with Walmart or elsewhere, the company’s objective is to help all associates find their next job opportunity.

“The decision to close stores is difficult and we care about the associates who will be impacted,” McMillon said. “We invested considerable time assessing our stores and clubs and don’t take this lightly. We are supporting those impacted with extra pay and support, and we will take all appropriate steps to ensure they are treated well.”

Walmart will continue to serve the shopping needs of U.S. customers in the markets affected by today’s announcement through other Walmart locations and online at www.walmart.com. Customers can find the nearest Walmart store through the store locator function on the company’s website.

Walmart To Close Down Underperforming Irvine Supercenter Next Month

What time does super walmart close -

Fairfield Walmart

The Fairfield Walmart Supercenter on Monday, Jan. 25.

The small, aging city of Fairfield will lose one of its largest sources of sales tax dollars. It's going to be without a major grocery store in the city. It's losing one of its only pharmacies.

Walmart opens and closes stores as business dictates. When they close, it can leave empty buildings and unemployed workers.

But when Walmart closes the doors to its Walmart Supercenter in Fairfield Thursday, it will also leave an already flailing city in an even deeper hole.

An aging city

When Mayor Kenneth Coachman heard the news, his first reaction was disbelief.

He had no prior notice - hearing about Walmart closing on the news was the first he heard of it. He immediately called management to verify it.

It was like losing a family member, Coachman said: After denial, grief.

"Walmart has played a major, major role in this community, and I like to think we've had a wonderful relationship," Coachman said. "It's more than just our city. I think about the families with low to moderate incomes and what it means to them. It's like I lost a loved one unexpectedly."

That's partially because Fairfield is in a particularly vulnerable place. About 95 percent of the city's residents are black, according to census data. The median income is about $34,400, compared to a statewide $43,300.

But most troubling to Coachman: Fairfield's population is older than most of Alabama. That makes proximity issues especially troubling, he said. The census estimates that 14.8 percent of Fairfield's households are made up of people older than 65 living alone, compared to 10.4 percent statewide.

Walmart opened a Supercenter in nearby Hueytown in 2008. It's about a 10 minute drive from the Fairfield Supercenter. That may not be a big deal to many who have cars and are in good health, but a significant segment of Fairfield doesn't fit that description.

"It has an impact on our seniors, who are not able to go those extra miles away from this area," Coachman said. "That will be a major distance for many of our citizens. To go up a little bit further, that can be a challenge."

The Walmart did a lot more than retail. It had a vision center. Residents could cash checks at Walmart. There are four bank branches in the city, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data. Shoppers could fill prescriptions. There will only be one pharmacy left in the city, according to Coachman's estimation.

'A money problem'

"We've got a money problem," City Councilman Darnell Gardner said. "It's going to be devastating once they close those doors. And I mean devastating."

That's because Walmart earned a lot of sales taxes for the city of Fairfield. Coachman said he'd asked the city's accountant for a total number for the last year, but that number wasn't available by the time of publication. Gardner said he didn't know the exact amount, but he estimated Walmart paid about 40 percent of the city's sales taxes.

The city nearly lost its garbage collection services last year because of an outstanding $37,000 balance. The city has failed to pay its employees on time in the past. The jail has had to free inmates because there wasn't money to buy food.

"I really hate that we're going to lose Walmart, because it's definitely going to have a major impact on the city," Gardner said. "Every four months, it seems like we can't pay our bills."

Other major grocery stores in the area, like Winn-Dixie and Publix, aren't technically in Fairfield so don't pay taxes to the city.

This is the latest in a string of blows to the city. Last year, more than a thousand people were left out of work when US Steel announced it was permanently shutting down its blast furnace at Fairfield Works. Though Fairfield Works was technically in unincorporated Jefferson County, and thus didn't pay any taxes to Fairfield, many workers spent money in Fairfield, and some workers lived there.

There was a glimmer of hope when the company chose Alabama to locate its new electric arc furnace in Jefferson County. It wouldn't make up for the loss from the blast furnace, but it would employ another 300 people. But US Steel has since postponed plans for that project until market conditions improve.

Walmart's closure will impact 264 employees.

"Walmart has already indicated that they will give priority to laid off workers at other stores," said Eddie Lard of Direct Communications, which does public relations for Alabama Walmarts. "Since there are nearby stores in Hueytown, Bessemer, Lakeshore, Hoover, I'd be shocked if there are not a significant number of them going to other stores."

The workers will remain on payroll until Feb. 10, and they will get an additional 60 days of regular pay.

Last days

Fairfield's Walmart is officially closing Thursday at 7 p.m. But walking through the aisles Monday, it's doubtful there will be much left by then.

Fairfield resident Douglas Wilson, 68, said he'll continue to shop at Walmart because the prices are the best. But he's frustrated that he'll have to drive to Hueytown now for his basic groceries.

"I'm really sorry it closed down, because of all the people who will lose their jobs," Wilson said. "I can live with this new location. But it was convenient here."

The going-out-of-business sale was good for some shoppers. Many on Monday were from Birmingham, Hoover and elsewhere, trying to take advantage of the store's half-off stock. But many locals are left frustrated.

"It sucks," said Jamie Becker, a 28-year-old Wylam man who primarily shopped at the Fairfield store. "I wonder how many other things are going to shut down here."

Becker said he bought nearly everything at Walmart - groceries, diapers, clothes. His six-minute drive for all of these things is about to go to a fifteen-minute drive to the next closest Walmart. It's especially frustrating, Becker said, because every time he came to the store it was always crowded.

"I don't understand why they're shutting it down. It doesn't make sense," Becker said. "I think it's because Fairfield don't got no money."

A 92-year-old woman, who only identified herself as Beverly, said, “This is going to be a major inconvenience.

Prichard enjoyed biking to the store to buy groceries and other things like dog food, water jugs and small appliances.

Financial Impact

Walmart to increase hours Saturday with stores opening at 6 a.m.; senior hours to continue

Walmart is increasing store hours for the first time since November after drastically cutting them in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

Starting June 5, stores will open an hour earlier – at 6 a.m. each day – except for Tuesday mornings, when Walmart will continue to hold its weekly senior hours for those most vulnerable to COVID-19, the retailer shared exclusively with USA TODAY.

Most pharmacies and vision centers will resume pre-COVID hours beginning July 3.

The increase in hours comes weeks after Walmart dropped mask requirements for fully vaccinated customers and employees after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued updated guidance. Masks are still required at stores where a state or local mask mandate is in effect.

"With the number of fully vaccinated Americans growing higher every day, we believe we can adjust hours once again,” Dacona Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S. said in a statement Tuesday.

It's the third time Walmart has increased hours after reducing them twice in March 2020. For five months, most stores were open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., a big change from the 24-hour service many stores offered before the pandemic.

In August, stores added 90 minutes back and delayed closing until 10 p.m. local time. Walmart then pushed back closing again – to 11 p.m. – in November during the holiday shopping season.

Smith said Walmart has made additional adjustments in the past few weeks, including the mask policy update, removing the 20% store-mandated capacity restriction, but adjusting to any local or state capacity limits, and adding back seating to Auto Care Center waiting areas.

Free samples return: Sam's Club joins Costco in bringing back free samples to clubs nationwide after pausing for COVID

Target fitting rooms return: Target is reopening fitting rooms after keeping them closed more than a year amid COVID-19

Stores in areas that have lifted mask requirements also can now "reassign their health ambassador from the main entrance back into another role in the store," Smith said. The role was created in July when Walmart started requiring customers to wear masks "to remind those without a mask of our new requirements," the retailer said at the time.

Walmart cleaning measures continue

Smith said stores “continue our stepped-up cleaning and sanitizing measures,” and sneeze guards will remain at all registers along with social distancing decals on floors. Employees will continue to sanitize shopping carts.

Walmart as well as Sam's Club workers, who have been required to wear masks since April 2020, four months before customers, have been able to work without a mask as of May 18, as long as they are fully vaccinated and in an area without state and local mandates.

Health checks for employees and suppliers continue before each shift, and Walmart is giving a $75 COVID-19 vaccine bonus to U.S. employees, which includes store and supply chain associates.

Walmart also is extending its COVID-19 emergency leave policy for employees through Sept. 30, Smith said.

“As a company, we will continue to maintain our focus and will remain ready to react and adjust as needed in order to ensure we are doing our very best to help keep our customers, associates and communities safe,” Smith said.

Walmart store hours expanding

Starting Saturday, most stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. unless otherwise mandated by state or local government, Smith said.

Beginning July 3, most pharmacies will return to pre-COVID-19 hours and be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Most vision centers will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will also be open on the weekend.

To find your local Walmart’s most up-to-date hours, use the store finder on the website or on the app.

Walmart senior hour staying for now

Walmart's weekly dedicated shopping time for seniors 60 and older and those most vulnerable to COVID-19 began in March 2020 when Walmart reduced its regular hours. The hour is from 6 to 7 a.m. Tuesdays and uses the honor system.
